Fire Education Services

Kernersville Fire Rescue Department’s mission includes preventing harm in our community. We have programs and services intended to help meet that goal. The department offers a wide variety of safety programs to schools, churches, businesses and civic groups, including:

  • Church Fire Safety - Developed for staff and church leaders, this class discusses how to keep your buildings and congregation safe from fire. Topics include arson awareness and prevention, general fire safety, meeting fire code requirements and evacuation plans.
  • Disaster Preparedness - Designed to help families prepare for natural and man-made disasters by explaining what to expect, what to do before help arrives, what supplies are needed and how/where to seek shelter.
  • Parent Fire Safety Course - This program helps parents see fire and safety hazards from a child’s point of view. Learn how to make your house more "child friendly" by reducing or possibly eliminating many common fire and safety hazards.
  • Juvenile Fire Intervention - Fire curiosity is a normal part of life but often this curiosity gets out of control. The purpose of this program is to educate at risk juveniles on the dangers of fire and the consequences that could occur. This program is available for individual or group presentations as we strive to significantly reduce the number of intentionally set fires that juveniles are responsible for.
  • General Fire Safety - Do you know when to check the batteries in your smoke detectors? Do you have an escape plan for your home? Do you practice your escape plan? Do you know what to do if your clothes catch fire? If the answer to any of these questions is "no", then this class is for you. Learn about common fire hazards and ways to keep your home safe from fire.
  • Fire Extinguisher Training - Fire extinguisher training is available for businesses and groups that require practical, live fire experience with their extinguishers. Fire extinguishers and propane must be provided by the business or group requesting the course.
  • Project F.I.R.E. (Firefighters In Roles of Education) - Our Project F.I.R.E. program was designed for the elementary school level but has been expanded so that all students, Grades K-12, have access to fire and life safety information pertinent to their age group.
  • Fire Station Tours – We are always happy to have groups tour our stations to learn more about our department’s facilities and equipment.

In addition to our fire education programs, the department offers services to individuals that are intended to enhance safety in the community. Those services include:

  • Child Safety Seat Inspections - The Child Safety Seat Inspection program assists parents, grandparents and other guardians of small children in the correct installation and maintenance of car and booster seats.
  • Smoke detector Installation & Maintenance – This program is designed to ensure that a working smoke detector is available to those families who cannot afford one. Firefighters will also assist those citizens who need help changing the batteries in existing smoke detectors.

These programs can be tailored to meet the needs of the target audience. To schedule a safety program, contact the department's business office at (336) 996-4885. You may also request a program by clicking here.
