Purpose of the Association

The purpose of the Sister City Associations is to establish, and maintain various

Sister City relationships with towns and cities throughout the world in order to foster cultural, educational, economic, and social feelings and exchanges between the citizens

and residents of the Kernersville community and surrounding areas, and other cultures throughout the world.

Current Relationships

The Town of Kernersville formed a sister city relationship with Dahshi, Taiwan in 2004.  Sister city relationships are formed between cities in order to promote cultural and economic development.   This relationship with Dahshi began as the result of the Special Olympics Chinese Taipei (Taiwan) team being hosted by the citizens and Town of Kernersville prior to the 1999 World Summer Games.   A number of friendships were developed during this week and continuing relationships were formed, culminating in a sister city agreement between Dahshi and Kernersville.

The Town of Kernersville is also interested in forming a relationship with Furtwangen, Germany, which is the boyhood home of Joseph Kerner, the founder of Kernersville. For over ten years, there has been a great deal of interest shown by Kernersville citizens in establishing this relationship. In our dialogue with officials in Furtwangen, we have agreed that a good initial point of contact between Kernersville and Furtwangen would be a reciprocal "pen pal" relationship between students of similar age.

Currently the Kernersville Sister City Association is in the process of forming a "Cultural Understanding Program"  between students of Forsyth County and students in Furtwangen, Germany and Dahshi, Taiwan.   For additional information about the

Cultural Understanding Program, please contact Bruce Boyer at (336) 993-4521.

Meeting Schedule

The Kernersville Sister City Association will hold its regularly scheduled meetings on the third Monday of each month at 6:00pm in the Executive Conference Room of Town Hall.  Everyone is welcome and encouraged to attend.

Effective July 2006, the Kernersville Sister City Commission voted to hold its regularly scheduled meeting bi-monthly on the third Monday of the month before the Sister City Association meeting.

For more information please contact Liza Baron, Association Secretary, at (336) 996-4550.
